Scout Discoveries is an agile, growing mineral exploration company based in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Scout is vertically integrated by design — drilling, geoscience, and an internal lab under one roof — which keeps discovery costs down and lets us explore more often, learn faster, and keep the economics in our own hands.
Just as deliberately, Scout takes great care of its people. We are building a culture of entrepreneurship, learning, accountability, and looking out for one another while pursuing gold, silver, and copper discoveries across the western United States. Scout is the largest holder of unpatented mining claims in Idaho.
Discovery starts with trustworthy field data. The soil sample, the stream-sediment sample, the claim monument, the drill-site record, the core box — each one becomes part of the geological record that guides Scout's next decision. Small mistakes travel upstream; careful work compounds.
The Exploration Geotechnician collects and protects that record. This role supports soil and stream-sediment sampling campaigns, claim staking, exploration drill programs, and core and sample processing. The work moves between remote field programs across the western United States and Scout's Coeur d'Alene operations. It calls for physical stamina, punctuality, disciplined documentation, and the flexibility to travel where the program needs support.
We drill. We discover. We do it again, until discovery stops being luck.
Make an Impact
Field Sampling & Data Collection
- Conduct soil and stream-sediment sampling campaigns to Scout procedures and project-specific sampling plans.
- Record sample locations, field observations, identifiers, and required metadata accurately using GPS units, maps, and mobile data-collection tools.
- Label, bag, organize, and transport samples while maintaining sample integrity and chain of custody.
- Run routine quality checks before samples and field data are handed to the geological team, and flag missing or questionable information promptly rather than letting bad data move forward.
Claim Staking & Field Support
- Support claim-staking programs across the western United States under the direction of exploration leadership.
- Navigate to planned claim locations and assist with monuments, posts, notices, location documentation, and organized field records.
- Support geological mapping, prospecting, reconnaissance, and grid work as assigned.
- Work safely and effectively in remote terrain, variable weather, and changing field conditions.
Exploration Drill Program Support
- Support drill-site setup, sample movement, core handling, site organization, and program logistics.
- Maintain clear sample identification and chain of custody from the drill site through transport and processing.
- Keep work areas, vehicles, sample materials, and field equipment orderly and ready for use.
- Report equipment issues, sample discrepancies, hazards, and delays promptly.
Core & Sample Processing
- Receive, verify, organize, and track core and other exploration samples at Scout's Coeur d'Alene facility.
- Assist with core orientation, measurement, marking, photography, cutting coordination, sampling, bagging, labeling, and storage as trained.
- Confirm identifiers and documentation at every handoff, and stop the process when something does not match.
- Prepare samples for laboratory shipment while preserving chain of custody and orderly records.
Safety, Equipment & Team Standards
- Follow Scout safety procedures, job-hazard controls, vehicle rules, and site-specific requirements without shortcuts.
- Use and maintain assigned PPE, field gear, GPS units, radios, vehicles, and processing equipment responsibly.
- Arrive punctual, prepared, and fit for duty for every shift, mobilization, and travel day.
- Report hazards, incidents, and near-misses the same day, and communicate clearly about progress, handoffs, and obstacles.
What You Bring
- Experience in mineral exploration, geology, environmental fieldwork, surveying, forestry, construction, outdoor labor, or another field-based technical environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with soil or stream-sediment sampling, claim staking, core handling, sample preparation, or exploration drill programs is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail with labels, sample numbers, coordinates, field notes, forms, and digital records.
- Ability to learn and consistently follow sampling protocols, chain-of-custody requirements, and QA/QC procedures.
- Ability to use or learn GPS units, maps, compasses, mobile data-collection tools, radios, and basic field equipment.
- Physical fitness to hike steep or uneven terrain, carry field equipment and samples, work outdoors for extended periods, and perform repetitive material-handling tasks.
- Punctuality, reliability, sound judgment, and a safety-first mindset.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the western United States, including multi-day field assignments and irregular schedules when programs require them.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet Scout's vehicle-use requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or a degree in geology, earth science, environmental science, or natural resources is helpful but not required.
