Scout Discoveries is a vertically integrated exploration and drilling company based in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho — drilling and geoscience in house, an internal lab being built to close the loop — that takes deliberate care of its people while it pursues Tier One discoveries across the state. Scout is the largest holder of unpatented claims in Idaho, working gold, silver, and copper, and building a culture of entrepreneurship, learning, and looking out for one another.
A drill program in the backcountry only runs as fast as the road behind it. Parts, fuel, and consumables have to reach the rig before the rig runs out; crews have to make their flights on crew-change day; and when a bit or a pump fails, the meters stop until the replacement arrives.
This role is the road behind the rig for Scout Drilling. The Expeditor safely and on time moves parts and supplies to and from remote drill sites, gets crews to and from the nearest airport on fly-in, fly-out days, pulls and backs a trailer with confidence on gravel and drill pads, and helps around the drill when the crew needs a hand. The work is mostly on the road and on site, shoulder to shoulder with foremen, drillers, helpers, and the shop.
We drill. We discover. We do it again, until discovery stops being luck.
Key Responsibilities
Site Runs
- Delivers drill parts, consumables, fuel, water, and supplies to and from remote drill sites; picks up from suppliers, freight depots, and the shop
- Confirms every order is correct and complete before leaving town; a wrong part costs a full round trip
- Loads, secures, and unloads cargo properly and within vehicle and trailer ratings
- Keeps a simple log of runs, deliveries, and fuel so the foreman knows what arrived and when
Crew Transport
- Drives crews between site or camp and the nearest airport on crew-change days; meets arriving flights on time and gets outgoing crews there with margin to spare
- Keeps the crew vehicle clean, fueled, and ready before every crew change
Trailer and Vehicle Operation
- Hitches, unhitches, pulls, and backs trailers correctly; checks lights, brakes, tires, chains, and straps before every trip
- Completes daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and reports defects the same day
- Drives defensively in remote conditions: gravel, mud, snow, dust, wildlife, and limited cell coverage
Drill-Site Support
- Helps around the drill as directed by the driller: moving rods and supplies, housekeeping, site clean-up, rig moves and pad set-up
- Follows all Scout Drilling safety procedures, wears required PPE, and takes part in daily safety meetings and hazard assessments
- Reports hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately
Cadence
- Every day: pre-trip inspection; runs completed and logged; site needs for the next run confirmed with the foreman
- Every crew change: crew vehicle ready; flights confirmed; crews delivered and collected on time
- Weekly: truck and trailer checked over; upcoming parts and supply needs reviewed with the foreman and the shop
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record (required at hire)
- Proven ability to safely pull, back up, and position a trailer; a practical trailer test is part of hiring
- Experience driving trucks and trailers on gravel, mountain, or remote roads in all seasons
- Reliable and punctual; able to lift 50 lb repeatedly and work outdoors in all weather
- A safety mindset: willing to stop work and speak up when something is not right
- Preferred: field experience in drilling, mining, oil and gas, or forestry; CDL; First Aid/CPR; basic vehicle maintenance; familiarity with drill consumables
Benefits
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
- 401(k)
- FIFO rotation schedule
- A clear path toward driller's helper and, with the right aptitude, driller within Scout Drilling — with development focused on drill-site skills, equipment operation, and field logistics
